Fall Season means a yard of unraked leaves!

Many people see the yard full of leaves as drudgery. They will give many people headaches; however, gardeners see this as treasures.  The leaves create piles of carbon-rich material for the soil and they are free. Some methods for collecting these leaves could become harmful to the environments, however. A common way of collecting leaves is by using gas blowers because they are efficient and fast but this kind of efficiency could also create carbon monoxide that could harm the environment. The gas blower can create 7 times of carbon monoxide emission than a mid size car according to one study. It also create the harmful effects caused by the noise (higher than 100 decibels).

What do you do after you have collected the leaves?

The leaves could be turned into compost, dry leaves produces carbon which will combine with nitrogen from your grass clippings and all your used left over vegetables, fruits, and fresh kitchen wastes. Put them into a compost bin and in time, these garden waste will turn into nutrient rich compost. All free. This is the budget gardener's dream combination: Save the environment, keepingSearch Amazon.com for leaf scoop yourself healthy and feeding the flower and vegetable beds - all for free!

As green gardeners, we want to save the environment and not to harm it.  In my own garden, I use a rake and my hands. Not only will it keep me exercising my arms and my lungs but doing this will allow me to have peace and quiet time to myself. Let's face it, everyone needs to exercise, why not do something useful when you are exercising. The chain reaction will make you and the garden healthier.
