Uncle Peter's Hawaiian Mango ( Pirie Mango)

Hawaiian style shave ice made of real mango !  The taste is superb, out of this world.  This is  the only restaurant in Oahu  that offers mango shave ice in a unique flavor and style ! This restaurant's name is " Anytime Cafe" serving Asian Fusion, Hong Kong style Chinese-pseudo-westerner food with authentic Vancouver wonton noodles.... one of the best wontons in town !
Uncle Peter holding his favorite mango, the Pirie Mango grown locally in his  neighbor's garden.  Cannot  be  shipped  or exported since this special type has high local demand and production is not enough to meet local consumption. It takes at least 5 years to produce fruits. The trees have to be protected from the ocean breeze or wind which is very common in Hawaii. The flowers are very fragile and will fall off when the wind blows. Therefore the fruits are precious and in high demand.
It is special because the flesh is very juicy, fragrant and sweet.  The seed is flat and smaller than the common mango.   Once you've tried this Pirie Mango, you will not want the other kinds. Originally came from India and south east Asia. Currently, Hawaii is the only area in the United States that can grow this fruit. They are seldom available in the stores. He is lucky that his neighbor has this mango tree.

  1. That is definitely not Hawaiian style shave ice. I think anytime cafe calls it mango snow. Shave ice is what you get at wailoa or matsumoto.

  2. YES, you must be right ! It looks more like snow than ice and taste like it has a tinge of milk or cream in it.... not like sorbet and not like ice cream either. The menu must have described it as "mango snow". Thanks very much for your comment. If you know of any restaurant or cafe in CA or Bay Area offers this please let us know. Thanks.
